Analysis of production barriers of titanium dioxide by chloride process and market competition of titanium dioxide
Time: 2024-08-08 Source from: Titanos
The production process barriers of titanium dioxide by chloride process mainly include:
(1) Limited technology sources. The mature and reliable process technology of titanium dioxide by chloride process is the main factor restricting the development of my country's titanium dioxide by chloride process industry. Although decades of efforts have been made, especially in recent years, several sets of boiling chlorination titanium dioxide units have been built and put into operation, but from the perspective of enterprises planning to build large-scale boiling chlorination units, how to obtain advanced, mature and reliable process technology of titanium dioxide by chloride process is still the most troublesome factor. Therefore, solving the problem of technology sources is one of the key tasks for the development of the chloride process in China.
(2) Raw material guarantee and three wastes treatment. Although my country is a country with a large number of titanium resources, the characteristics of high calcium and magnesium titanium raw material resources determine that it is not suitable as a raw material for titanium dioxide by chloride process, especially for large-scale boiling chlorination units. At present, even if the enterprises that have built or are building boiling chlorination units with high titanium slag units still rely on imported low calcium and magnesium titanium ore to smelt high titanium slag to meet the requirements of boiling chlorination. Therefore, the lack of stable supply of titanium raw materials in China has become one of the factors restricting the long-term healthy development of the domestic titanium dioxide by chloride process industry. The waste by-products generated in the chlorination process are far less than those in the sulfuric acid process, but the treatment is more difficult than that in the sulfuric acid process. If it cannot be thoroughly treated, it will be more harmful to the environment. Therefore, for new chlorination titanium dioxide projects, the treatment of chlorine-containing wastewater, waste liquid and chlorinated solid waste residue are the key points and difficulties.
(3) The chlorination process has high requirements for technical process control. According to different chlorination technologies, it is divided into molten salt chlorination and boiling chlorination. At present, the global large-scale molten salt chlorination technology industry has achieved certain results, but boiling chlorination technology is still a crucial choice for production capacity scale guarantee. Therefore, the key to the development of the industry is to overcome and master the key technologies of large-scale boiling chlorination, mature process control and relevant talent reserves.
(4) High investment intensity. The investment intensity of the chlorination process of titanium dioxide production is higher than that of the sulfuric acid process of titanium dioxide production. For enterprises engaged in the chlorination process of titanium dioxide production, strong financial strength is required.
(5) The technical team has high experience requirements. The production of titanium dioxide by the chlorination process is a highly automated process. To achieve accurate and stable production control, a unified and coordinated technical team and experience accumulation are required. Cases where individual domestic projects have completed the construction of production lines but have not performed well in actual operation warn us to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
Regarding the current market competition landscape of titanium dioxide, we believe that:
(1) The global per capita consumption of titanium dioxide is about 1kg/person, and there is still a large gap between my country and the consumption level of developed countries; the global titanium dioxide plant capacity utilization rate is not high, and there is still a large space for releasing production;
(2) The downstream application scenarios of titanium dioxide are constantly expanding, the demand for high-end titanium dioxide is increasing, and the chloride-based titanium dioxide with superior performance and environmental protection and low carbon will extend to a wider market area.
(3) We must take the path of green and low-carbon development.
(4) Competition will become increasingly fierce. Signs such as the EU's anti-dumping and additional tariffs on Chinese titanium dioxide indicate that global competition will become more intense. As competition intensifies, the competition among leading companies will become more obvious. The industry is likely to be concentrated, and mergers and acquisitions within the industry may accelerate.
