Solvay Specialty Polymers has a new, ultrahigh molecular weight polyetheretherketone polymer.
KetaSpire KT-810 PEEK offers greater ductility and toughness than standard high molecular weight PEEKs, according to Solvay. Its enhanced toughness and impact resistance are particularly well suited to applications in oil and gas industries and in semiconductor manufacturing. The polymers is processable by conventional extrusion, injection molding and compression molding. In compression molding of shapes for parts machining, it resists cracking during demolding and machining.
Solvay claims KetaSpire KT-810 features 50 percent improvement in tensile elongation at break and a 10 to 20 percent increase in impact resistance. The company supplies it as a fine powder and in pellets. Solvay’s Specialty Polymers headquarters in the United States is in Alpharetta, Ga., while the global head office is in Brussels, Belgium.
