2011 BASF's report of Greater China region

The globally leading chemical company BASF issued 2011 report of Greater China region, disclosing the  economic, environmental and social performance of the company in the region. '2011 BASF's report of Greater China region' is the fourth consecutively comprehensive annual report published in China. Last year, BASF of Greater China region created historical record
 of sales breakthrough of 6.5 billion euros with effective management of emissions, and further strengthened the commitment of the company of sustainable development.

Board chairman of BASF Greater China region, Mr. GuanZhiHua said: "the report reflects the commitment of transparent reporting about each year of the company's operation condition. In 2011, though the production scale further expanded, BASF still got progress in a number of environmental indexes. We focus on bringing the market more sustainable solutions, and directly contribute for the overall development of China.

GuanZhiHua also pointed out that: "sustainable development is the core of the new global strategy of BASF" which is to create new function of the chemistry. Through the "third round" of '1 + 3 'project, we commit to work with partners to promote Chinese sustainable development with the action."

The innovation and investments promote sustainable growth.

Innovation is the development of sustainable products and solutions, and the key of servicing for industry and the marke of China. Located in the Shanghai, BASF's innovation area of Asia Pacific region will be put into use this year, and there will be more than 450 personnel of scientific research technology descending with developing new solutions for the customers in Asia Pacific.

In order to further develop business in China and production, network BASF actively committed to continuous investment, merger and excellent operation. The Chongqing MDI (ErBenJi methane diisocyanate) project whose total amount of investment is 8 billion yuan goes well; In January 2012, the expansion project of the second phase of Nanjing joint venture enterprise formally has finished.  With 2011 integration of BASF-YPC Styrene company and BASF-YPC Styrene Limited Liability company, the accumulative total of investment has been to $4.5 billion.

The excellent operation has reduced emissions.

In 2011, BASF of Greater China region got progress in water resources protection. Although production increased,  the discharge of the organic material (chemical oxygen demand (COD) ) reduced 8%, only 521 tons (2010:565 tons). Nitrogen emissions reduced 8.7%, only 23 tons (2010:25 tons); Heavy metal emissions reduced to 0.1 tons (2010:0.3 tons). These all benefit from upgrade of sewage treatment facilities.

In 2011, the waste management of BASF of Greater China region have improved. The amount of Annual solid waste because of production is 67323 tons (2010:68012 tons). Process optimization also make the utilization rate of waste recycling increase from 64% in 2010 to 80% in 2011.

Influenced by its expansion of production capacity and new acquisitions, the amount of 2011 greenhouse gas emissions and atmospheric emissions rose a little. Although electric power and energy supply is up, but the supply level of BASF steam remains steady at last year's level. BASF continues to reduce energy consumption of per ton of products.

Social responsibility, talent cultivation is recognized.

Basf's staff volunteer project "love the teacher" is rated by Shanghai municipal government as one of "ten best case" of corporate social responsibility. In 2011, CRF institutions rated again BASF as one of the"outstanding Chinese employers" to commend BASF of talent of outstanding success in human resources management and development.

In order to joint more companies and partners to promote sustainable development and  continue to provide support for the whole sustainable development of the value chain, BASF and new nine partners started the third round of "1 + 3" project. From the start of "1 + 3" to now, there have been more than 130 enterprises through the China business council for sustainable development of the platform to participate in this program.

In 2011, BASF, as the identity of the founding member, joined the global compact of China network to promote the general principle of execution in the ten area such as human rights, Labour, environment, anti-corruption etc.
