ADRIAN, Mich.—Wacker Chemie A.G. has launched silicone products for the wound dressing and prosthetics industry.

According to the company, Silpuran 2112 silicone adhesive, developed specifically for the advanced wound dressings, is compatible with the skin. Silpuran 2438 ADH silicone adhesive bonds with textiles and siliconized components typically used in prosthetics, and it is skin compatible as well.

The products were released at the Medical Design & Manufacturing-East 2013 exhibition in Philadelphia.

Silpuran 2112 is an addition-curing gel that consists of two pourable components that cure to form a flexible, transparent adhesive, without organic plasticizers, that gently adheres to skin and aligns well with irregularities. It is breathable, water-repellent and can be removed without traumatizing the tissue.

The company claims that Silpuran 2438 ADH, when its components have been mixed, results in a medium-hard elastomer that is notable for its high tensile and high tear strength. It can immobilize cured silicone rubbers and can bond molded parts without priming.
