First. Overview

The scientific name of titanium dioxide is TiO2.It is considered to be the most superior white pigment in the world. It is nontoxic and has the best opacity, best whiteness and brightness, is widely used in coatings, plastic, paper making, printing ink, chemical fiber, rubber, ceramics, cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical industries, it's called the "industrial aginomoto", its per capita consumption as important index to measure a country's level of economic development, is also a measure of the country's market potential evidence. As the basic industry of China's economy, titanium dioxide affects the development nerve of various industries fundamentally, and is often known as the "barometer" of national economic development.

There are two manufacturing methods, sulphate process and chloride process. At present, 60% of the world's products are chlorinated products. In developed countries in Europe and America, the proportion of chlorinated products is higher. Titanium dioxide chloride production process is internationally recognized as a new generation of advanced technology due to its environmental protection process and high product quality. The United States closed its last titanium dioxide sulphate plant in 2006. In recent years, China has also been vigorously promoting the upgrading of titanium dioxide industry. Titanium dioxide chloride was listed as an encouraged project in the Guidance Catalogue for Industrial Restructuring (2005 edition) in 2005.

Second. Comparison of production technology between titanium dioxide sulfuric acid production process and chlorination production process process

1. Titanium dioxide production process by sulfuric acid production process

The titanium dioxide production with sulfuric acid production process is very complicated, and its basic chemical reactions include a series of simple chemical reactions, such as acid hydrolysis, hydrolysis and calcination with iron concentrate as raw material. The sulfuric acid method is mainly based on ilmenite and sulfuric acid as raw materials.

2. Titanium dioxide production process by chlorination production process process

Titanium dioxide chloride process was developed rapidly from 1940s to 1950s. In order to reduce the environmental pollution caused by "three wastes", the chlorination production process method is based on titanium-rich materials (such as high titanium-rich slag produced by electric furnace, natural rutile and artificial rutile produced by various methods). In terms of the chlorination production process process of titanium-rich materials, it is divided into boiling chlorination production process and molten salt chlorination production process. The main processes of chlorination production process are chlorination production process, oxidation and coating (as with sulfuric acid).

Three. The advantages and disadvantages of titanium dioxide sulphuric acid method and chlorination production process method in various application fields were analyzed

Titanium dioxide is widely used in coating, plastic, paper, printing ink, chemical fiber, rubber, ceramics, cosmetics, food and medicine and other fine chemical industries. Its main application areas are coating, plastic and paper, its consumption composition is as follows: coating 58% ~ 60%; Plastic 18-20%; Paper 13%-14%; Rubber, fiber, ink, cosmetics and other industries account for 8% ~ 10%. However, due to the different manufacturing methods of titanium dioxide, the properties of titanium dioxide products produced have their own advantages and disadvantages, and their application effects are naturally not the same.

In subsequent articles, we'll introduce how these two approaches compare across different products.
