WASHINGTON—The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry has a new online resource to help methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and polymeric MDI users calculate emissions.

CPI, part of the American Chemistry Council, expanded its Regulatory Compliance Assistance Program by upgrading its interactive tool designed to help calculate emissions. The tool is available on the CPI website.

The tool should help users to comply with mandatory reporting obligations to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by estimating emissions from typical process applications and activities. Users who exceed the threshold limits set by EPA are required to submit a Form A or Form R by July 1 of each year to the EPA and the designated state agency.

The program can be used by companies in their Toxic Release Inventory reporting. CPI expanded the tool in its diisocyanates category to address 12 more examples of emissions from various applications including the manufacture of air filters, appliances, truck, automotive, boats, doors, mobile homes/motor homes, packaging, rebond, spray foam, spandex and water heaters.

CPI Senior Director Lee Salamone said that new additions to CPI's program will make toxic release inventory reporting a more streamlined process, using a spreadsheet format.

"Our expanded tool can meet the needs of this industry—whether it's reporting emissions from spray foam in a motor home manufacturing facility or from water heater assembly operations," Salamone said.

The interactive tool is available free on CPI's website, http://polyurethane.americanchemistry.com. CPI also has a tool for toluene diisocyanate emissions.
