No Evidence of Price Increase in October for Chinese TiO2 Market

Most of the domestic manufacturers choose to maintain the titanium dioxide (TiO2) prices after the seven-day holiday, indicating a difficult start for October.

Stimulated by booming export sales, market demands of titanium dioxide grew in late August and early September, though not substantially enough to boost the prices. But the growth rate went down in late September.

Chinese titanium dioxide markets have witnessed six times of price increases since this April, but current average price is still far from satisfactory. A fair price would be CNY¥16,000 per tonne in accordance with the ever-rising costs.

Policies have been issued in succession to emphasize cleaner production, air pollution control, water pollution control, and solid waste disposal and comprehensive utilization. The introduction and development of advanced technologies such as chlorination process producing technology, however, also entail a massive injection of funds. And it needs time for Chinese consumers to pay for the comparatively expensive chlorination process titanium dioxide.

Waste disposal cost is another main worry of Chinese manufacturers. Generally speaking, to dispose the industrial waste while producing every tonne of titanium dioxide products will cost CNY¥1,000, which largely increases the expenses.
