According to him, China's titanium dioxide industry is facing five fatal problems: backward core production technology, slow generalization of chlorination process, high demands on raw materials (which is the main cause of high producing cost), lack of domestic commercial resources and unscientific waste disposal.

 

Only by improving production equipment and absorbing advanced technology, especially the chlorination process technology, can Chinese manufacturers break through the barriers and revitalize the titanium dioxide industry, Liu says.

 

Low-emission chlorination process technology is a good choice to enhance production efficiency, but those who cannot afford it will find it even harder to survive. New policies, expected to be issued in 2014, will accelerate the industry consolidation by greatly improving market access of china's titanium dioxide industry.

 

The new policies are said to stipulate expressly the requirements for process scale, production technology and waste disposal, etc.
