Coatings manufacturers, who consume more than 60 percent of titanium dioxide products nationwide, are undoubtedly the largest users of titanium dioxide. Statistics show that coatings output is growing on a year-over-year basis. However, increase production is still not an easy decision for titanium dioxide manufacturers.
In April 2014, China's coatings output has reached 1.37 million metric tons, up 13.55% year-on-year. For January to April, the total output would be 4.29 million metric tons, up 9.49% year-on-year.
Guangdong Province still tops the main coatings producers of our country with an output of 298,904.9 metric tons, followed by Shanghai and Jiangsu Provinces with an output of 200,230.3 metric tons and 136,621.8 metric tons. The top three producers account for 43.3 percent of total output nationwide in the past four months.
Hunan Province in Southern China has witnessed a rapid growth in coatings output this year. In April, Hunan Province's coatings output has reached 87,254.7 metric tons, up 23.7% year-on-year and 15.2 month-on-month.
In 2013, China's total titanium dioxide output was 2.14 million metric tons and total capacity was 2.91 million metric tons. It is expected that the titanium dioxide capacity will surpass 5 million metric tons by end of 2015.
