OTTAWA, Ontario - The final consultation has concluded on the application for an Industry Stewardship Plan (ISP) for the paint and coatings industry in Ontario under the Municipal Household and Special Waste (MHSW) program. The application, which was submitted to Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO) in July 2013, seeks to have Product Care installed as the new program operator for post-consumer paint recycling in Ontario. The industry and many stakeholders strongly believe that approval of the ISP will lead to better governance, greater transparency and improved effectiveness for post-consumer paint recycling.

“We are pleased to see that the extensive consultations with the many stakeholders throughout Ontario has now concluded with the final WDO consultation on April 9,” commented Gary LeRoux, President of the Canadian Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA). “The paint and coatings industry would like to thank all those who provided feedback to Product Care about the application as it will help to improve the ISP and ensure that the paint industry continues to meet and exceed recycling targets as it has always done since the inception of the MHSW program in Ontario.”

Product Care has been a pioneer in post-consumer paint recycling and has delivered program operation services to the paint industry in Canada since 1994. It now operates similar programs in seven other Canadian provinces, and its program was the model for the PaintCare Program launched in the United States three years ago, which now has operations in seven states.
